Patreon launch – help me make great art, change the world, and I’ll reward you!

Join my artistic journey on Patreon!

I’ve had this blog for over five years now and for most of that time it’s been dormant. The trouble was, I didn’t know what to blog about. Now, after a complete revamp and a much needed rethink about where I’m heading (creatively and in life in general) I’m glad to say that I’m really excited about adding new content but also about launching my campaign on Patreon.

Okay … What is Patreon?

Patreon is a crowdfunding site similar to KickStarter but it differs in that it provides the opportunity for patrons to support artists on an ongoing basis. Patrons have always been crucial to art. Without them, the world might not have been enriched by the works of Shakespeare, Keats, or Da Vinci. In this modern age though, it’s still possible for patrons to influence the world. Your monthly pledge can be as low as $1 per month and you can cancel any time. Actually, all pledges are withdrawn at the end of the month so if you really wanted you could pledge an amount and cancel if it’s really not for you. That way, you would pay zilch. In return for your pledge I offer all kinds of rewards: sneak-peaks at future work, exclusive content including new snippets of comedy, flash fiction, and artwork.

Yes, artwork. ‘But Stu, aren’t you a playwright?’ I hear you ask. And yes, it’s one of many difficult questions I’ve asked myself over the many years like a confused Harry Potter sorting hat. I will always be first and foremost a playwright. But that doesn’t mean I can’t turn to other media as well. Indeed, playwrights are and always have been the Swiss army knives of art. We do everything, because it’s wise for us to do everything, because we need to have a broad range of skills to understand characters, emotions, and the universal compositions of love, tragedy, gain, and loss. In many ways, I think creating visual art is a not so dissimilar to playwriting anyway. Both media are visual, and both seek to explore moments, and maybe even link those moments together to tell stories.

So what’s next?

Over the last month I’ve been crazy busy getting this website up and running again. There’s still lots to do, but I’m happy with how it’s looking so far. From now on, you can think of this website as a hub for all my creative work: blog posts about writing, comedy, artwork, short stories, and updates on my plays. As for visual art, I’m finally getting the hang of using my drawing tablet to create digital works, but I’d like to turn my hand to acrylics sometime soon too. This journey is just starting and on Patreon and this blog you will be able to follow me all the way as I continue to ply my craft. Soon you’ll also be able to peruse my online gallery of artwork for sale on this site.

How you can help.
